Happy New Year
 London 2012
Campaigns: Celebrations
| New Year
Comments:
Happy New Year everyone.
Think my first resolution had better be not to mix Polish beer, champagne and vodka in future.
However sleeping it off worked and I was back to normal at St. Ambrose Club today!
Hope everyone who partied last night had as enjoyable a time as we did at St. Ambrose, Polish contingent had enough food to cope with the veritable 5000!
I saw the New Year in differently this time, we dropped the kids off and we went to London to cope with the veritable 250,000! No drink for me though, I was driving.
A rather belated Happy New Year folks!
The London fireworks were awesome on the telly this year. Best of all I saw. A test for the Olympics perhaps?
Happy New Year to everyone.
It was certainly better being there. An early set of fireworks were the Olympic rings in the sky.
An amusing sight that night was the sea of iPhones, video cameras and Blackberries held up by a hand each, all showing mini screens of the firework display. Most of them were too busy recording the fireworks to see the display from Big Ben.
This, I am a little obsessed with. When touring gigs over the last ten years, I used to do spot lights or camera and the fact that people pay to go to these shows and then watch them through a 2 inch screen is amazing, weird even. When on camera I always used to focus on a small screen and then transition to the real thing on stage. I see it all the time on the telly now. It seems most cameramen are obsessed with that shot and the video director used to love it. I have a recorded Enrique Iglesias show as a portfolio of shots if the local TV want to see my shooting

One of my many New Year resolutions was to back off considerably from my armchair activities - "ditch the keyboard, and get a life"! This New Year I hoped would be a new fresh fun start without the added distraction of the gloom that continues to hang over the world. However, only four days into 2012 and my original determinations are fast diminishing with all this praise for the fantastic fireworks that embraced London and other capital cities around the globe when 2011 became 2012.
I love fireworks and fun - HONESTLY I DO; and I thought the London display was fantastic - not as good as Sydney's - but impressive all the same. I watched the displays from the comfort of my armchair, (naturally), and I'm sorry for being a miserable old grump and spoiling the party here, but taking all things into consideration, wasn't blowing God knows how much money into the air to see in 2012 just a tad ridiculous?
Even poor old Big Ben came into the same form of abuse not seen since it was attacked during the Blitz in 1941. But seriously, has the world gone totally and utterly mad by welcoming a tirade of a 12 minute expensive firework display in times when many people are struggling to make ends meet?
(Just a footnote here: I was chuckling away to myself as I typed this comment.......Jesus Christ, I'm a miserable old sod, I really am) x

Arh, thank you for that Julian. With a Facebook page and a Facebook event page with the same logo it gets a little confusing. I would suggest you make this an annual event and invest in a website. Nothing complicated needed, something as simple as Norfolk's Job Fair for instance.

What's Mark Garnier's bogus concern for the unemployed got to do with rabbit lovers?
Tav, with respect I think you may be mistaken - I typed that "the event has been supported by grant aid from Wyre Forest District Council" on the event page and it is still there. As a WFDC venue is being hired, and as it is a community event the...

I bet if the 'Agenda was around in the 1960/70s they would be saying the same thing.
It's not the 60's or 70's anymore John. Times, materials, planning & design and consumer demand has moved on. I also hope the regeneration is a good one for Stourport.

Can you take this argument away from my fantasy please you two?

Don't take this thread too seriously 'Stupid Sandra'. No, the Health Concern posse are out of shot quickly closing in on the liberals. Some dressed in dungarees, Stetsons, cowboy boots with a shotgun over their arm, others with pointy hats and white sheets...
For ill-mannered 'Sandra's' information Siri Hayward is still a very active party member and Graham Ballinger left because the group said it wouldn't nominate him as a Committee Chair and the party was not prepared to have him as a Candidate this May, we have someone far better!
Do you realise how stupid you make YOURSELF look every time you denigrate someone? Why refer to Health Concern as idiots? I mean Graham Ballinger can't be stupid as he saw the light and left your crap party long ago - and Paul Harrison, oh and...

This is my Elvis it was bought from wales as a present for my birthday as a lot of Elvis fans are in the Peacock. We thought it would be nice to have him stood at the pub for everyone to see. I'm glad you all like it and enjoy looking at him. The king as left the building
